Nipple reconstruction is an Outpatient Procedure. The condition is easily treated and requires a small incision which is performed under a local anaesthetic.
For both nipples the procedure takes betwee thirty minutes to an hour. Following the procedure dressings are applied to the area and stay on for one to two weeks but reviewed after one week.
Patients experience minimal discomfort with this procedure, which can be easily controlled with painkillers.
Patients are able to bathe or shower so long as care is taken not to get the dressings wet.
Sun block should be worn for eighteen to twenty four months over the affected area as although clothing will be worn, sun can still burn through the clothing.
